We headed south for two days to discover a little bit of Bari Province. We’ve always been attracted by Apulia’s culinary tradition and we had the chance to taste a good part of it during this trip!
We were sure about something: one of our stops had to be the enchating town of Alberobello! You can see why from our photos: this place has its own incredible charm! Its trulli have been a UNESCO world heritage site since 1996. A trullo is a building that looks like a hut; it has a conical roof, with a magical, propitiatory symbol painted on it. Rione Monti and Aia Piccola are the two neighborhoods that are entirely made of trulli buildings. Don’t forget to visit the Trullo Sovrano, the only one to have an upper floor.
Even on a stormy day its white beauty is breathtaking!
After our visit, we really wanted to taste some of the cuisine Alberobello had to offer! We ate at L’Aratro restaurant…and we made a good choice! We ordered one portion of L’Aratro starter selection to share…we were glad we did, there was so much to taste! Then, we had two first courses, a dish of orecchiette past with “cime di rapa” (turnip tops) and a dish of Cavatellucci pasta, flavoured with cherry tomatoes from Torre Guaceto (Slow Food provider), red onions from Acquaviva (SlowFood) and diced capocollo from Martina Franca (Slow Food), served on a bea of mashed broad beans…delicious!
We wanted to sleep in a real trullo for the night. We stayed at Tipico B&B, in an amazingly beautiful room…it was a fantastic experience! The breakfast was included and was sooooooo rich: fruit, croissants, juices, cappuccino, coffe, typical sweets, but also salty food…amazing!
Have you ever visited Alberobello? Leave us a comment, we’d love to hear from you!
