Annecy: the little Venice of the Alps!

A delicious day trip

66859741_722666461507629_5996915088529817600_nAnnecy is a lovely French village in Haute-Savoie department, one hour from Geneva, very close to the Swiss border.

It overlooks its homonymous lake and it’s called “the little Venice of the Alps”, because Thiou river passes through the villegs and creates canals and bridges that simply overwhelm the viewers, wherever they walk around the town!

The village has a very small city centre, but you can admire picture-perfect corners everywhere!

Among the things you can see, here’s what you can find in town.

Palais de l’Île: historical monument of France, built on a tiny island in the middle of Thiou river, it was the residence of the castellan of Annecy.

Annecy castle: built in the 14th century and residence of the Earl of Geneva, it’s a beautiful museum where you can admire examples of lacustrine archaeology, medieval sculptures, landscape paitings and contemporary art. Opening days: every day. Price: €5.50 – adults, €3 – kids over 12. You can visit their website HERE.

Saint-Pierre‘s cathedral: built in the Renaissance, it is the main church of Annecy.

Let’s get to the yummy part! This is what we tasted in Annecy:

Les Délices de Manonyou have to visit this bakery and try their artisanal macarons, there are so many different flavours!

Chez Mamie Lise: savoyard décor and delicious Haute-Savoie typical food, we just went crazy in this lovely restaurant! We had a giant fondue aux champignons (mushroom fondue) and a huge tartiflette , both with cold cuts as a side: AMAZING!
