You cannot say you really know a person after you’ve talked to them for a few hours, right? Well, we do believe it’s the same with countries: you cannot say you visited France if you’ve just seen Paris!
A country has different regions, with traditions and celebrations that usually differ from one another. That’s the main reason why, any time we can, we travel by car. Following “thematic” trails, driving through countrysides, stopping by teeny tiny villages along the way, taking part in local celebrations…all that makes travelling an authentic experience!
Maybe not many of you would decide to visit a minuscule town inhabited by no more than seventy villagers. Even though, when you travel, every place can hide something incredible to see…like the little hamlet of Apremont-sur-Allier! It is a medieval village situated in Cher department, in Centre-Val de Loire region.
This little corner of heaven is one of the most beautiful villages of France… take a look at our gallery and tell us if it doesn’t deserve this privilege!
If you decide to visit Apremont, after the beautiful stroll along the river, you can visit the botanical garden and museum of horse and buggy (opening dates: from April 1st to October 1st; opening hours: 10:30-12:30/2:00-6:30 pm; ticket price: €10).

We loved exploring the little villages on our road trip last year, and were fortunate to stay at a B&B in Ruffey les Echilrey outside Dijon for four days. You get a much richer cultural experience getting to know the locals, don’t you?
We totally agree!!! We try to travel by car as much as we can, so that we can really see a region/area, stop when there’s a festival or traditional fairy, taste a particular dish we discover along the way… That’s authentically experiencing a place! Oh my, how we love little French towns and villages. And we’re lucky enough to have friends in a few. I don’t think I could pick a favourite, but we’re hoping to be back over there again next year and will try to find some more. I don’t think we’ll have to try very hard.
