Trasimeno lake: a jewel in Umbria!

Visiting Trasimeno Lake

You probably already know that we live in central Italy, in Abruzzo region to be precise, and we’re in a perfect location to visit the whole county. So what we usually do is taking the car and just drive around for the weekend.

During one of our adventures in Umbria, we decided to visit Trasimeno lake…what a marvelous place to visit! It’s just a 30-minute drive from Perugia, and it’s a perfect out-of-town getaway.

We visited the lake during summer, on a very hot day! We started with a stop in Passignano sul Trasimeno, an enchanting little town with an old citadel, known for its handicrafts made of wrought iron. We took a walk…look how beautiful it is!

We were there for lunchtime and we decided to eat at one of the restaurants in town. We stopped at La Locanda del Castello and had a very good seafood lunch!

We then drove to Castiglione del lagopart of “the most beautiful old villages of Italy” club. This town has Roman origins and was once the forth island of the lake. It was a sunny day so it was a pleasure to get a gelato and take a walk to explore the town. The panorama is stunning! Every corner deserves a photo, including the impressive Rocca del Leone. We completed the whole tour of the lake before heading back to Perugia for the night.

We absolutely recommend you to visit this beautiful lake!

Have you visited this place? Do you have any recommendations to add for those who want to visit? Write us a comment, we’d love to hear from you!

  1. Highly recommend taking the Lake Ferry on an excursion and getting off on Isola Maggiore where you can take the Saint Franci Walk around the Island and see where He lived and prayed during a visit.
